Some kids grow up hoping they don’t turn out anything like their parents. Fortunately, I was not one of them. If you know my parent’s story, you know that their marriage was far from perfect. In fact, they were extremely close to divorce. But God was faithful and brought healing and reconciliation.
I was too young to remember the rough times. Looking back, I was absolutely blessed to grow up in a home with two parents who loved each other and more importantly, loved the Lord. While I know it was never perfect, I was able to watch how God molded and shaped my parents’ marriage because they allowed Him to lead their relationship. My Dad never taught me how to be a good husband, he showed me. My Mom never explained love and respect, she demonstrated it daily.
Now, with a beautiful wife and three kids of my own, I am beginning to understand just how influential my parents were and still are to me. It’s amazing how genuine and biblical their advice is and I am truly blessed to have Ron and KC as my parents.
Ronald Reagan once said, “Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem.” While I agree wholeheartedly (mainly because I am a Marine Corps Veteran), I am confident that our Father in Heaven would say the same thing about my mom and dad. They ARE making a difference in the world, one family at a time.
